Saddelback Mountain and The Horn, ME
Date: 6/18/2006
Persons in Group: Brian and Greg.
Weather Conditions: 85-90+ degrees, Sunny/Hazy at long distances.
Route: Ski Trails to Appalachian Trail, up and back.
Notes: Ski Trail is in rough shape in parts, Appalacian Trail is in fantastic shape. Beautiful day for climbing, but we saw only one lone hiker all day. As for the animals, typical Maine environment. 8 moose, 5 deer and 1 black bear. (One of the deer was actually standing on the summit of the Horn).

Here is our route.
Here is our profile, as you can see the Ski Trails make it very steep.

We parked in the parking lot next to the base lodge, and started heading up the Ski Trails. Taking a breather to look back at the lodge.

Looking up the Ski Trail.

Reached a flat spot on the Ski Trail, it was a little hazy to start the day.

Once we reached the AT, we could see the summit of Saddleback. The ridge is completely exposed.

Small pools of water like this are scattered throughout the ridge.

The summit of Saddleback Mountain.

A view of the Horn from Saddleback...very steep off Saddleback to the col in between. The weather was starting to push into the 90's, it was freaken hot.

The Horn x2.

Moving back to Saddleback from The Horn. 90+ degrees, after moving so fast all day, we started to slow down reclimbing Saddleback.

Moving back down the Ski Trail to the parking lot, A final view of The Horn.
