Dorset Peak, VT
Date: 06/11/2006
Persons in Group: Brian and Greg.
Weather Conditions: 45-55 degrees, rain, clouds.
Route: Logging roads/snowmobile trails/herd paths.
Notes: We attacked from the end of the Dorset Hollow Road, in Dorset VT. Technically, Dorset is a trailess peak, so following the "Day Hikers Guide to Vermont" guidebook, we parked at the end of the road, and started up an old logging road. At about 1.1 miles, we came to a hunting camp where the logging road started to ramp up steeply. At about 2.0 miles, we hit a "trail" junction, marked with a cairn.. To the left would take us somewhere we didn't want to go, (down for one...) so we headed to the right, uphill. A couple tenths later, we hit another cairn, where the trail again forked, marked by a second cairn.. To the right, would bring us to the Dorset south peak. We headed to the left instead, in an attempt to bag the North Peak first. A couple tenths later, we again came to another fork, this time we headed right (uphill), on a definate herd path. About a mile later, we came to another 4 way intersection, with a sign marking the distance to each peak. We headed North, and came to the North Peak cannister a few tenths away. From there, we backtracked south to the South summit (with the firetower), and then followed a trail back down to the second cairn. Headed out from there.
Couple side notes, two pain in the ass water crossings, so much rain lately.

1.1 miles in, at the hunting shack.

Yeah, I was hungry, so we found a stove to cook on.

2.0 Miles in, at the first cairn.

After skipping the trail to the south peak, and working our way up to the ridge to hit the North Peak, we came to this sign pointing the direction to both peaks.

At the North Peak. Last register entry was 6/4/2006.

Dad at the canister.

Cabin ruins on the North peak.

Yeah, I've seen other people take pictures of them, so we took some too.

Fire tower/Grill combo on the South peak.
